Applications
Noraxon's technology is used by therapists for certain clinical applications.
Clinicians are required by healthcare mandates to validate the implementation
and results of their treatments in order to receive reimbursement. In the past,
insurers deemed SEMG data too unreliable to validate physical progress.
With the help of Noraxon, that is changing. Now, clinicians are observing how
muscles fatigue and measuring more accurately how long muscles take to recover.
These measurements, along with asymmetry analysis, enable clinicians to determine
not only when a patient has performed sufficient exercises, but more importantly,
whether or not treatment is being focused on the proper muscle. Using this information,
therapy may progress faster and produce improved results. Following is a list
of applications where SEMG may assist clinicians and their patients:
Incontinence
Noraxon SEMG is useful in retraining the pelvic floor muscles to eliminate
or reduce incontinence. The following are some examples in which SEMG can be
beneficial in these areas:
- After childbirth, when the pelvic floor muscles need to be strengthened.
- Post-surgically, when the procedure has resulted in some form of incontinence;
as a result of the aging process, an alternative to protective padding.
Rehabilitation
Noraxon SEMG is useful in many aspects of rehabilitation, whether from injury,
(catastrophic injury, sports injury or work injury), cumulative trauma (repetitive
strain) or post-surgery. The following are some examples of areas in which it
can be beneficial to utilize Noraxon SEMG:
- Establish baseline data to measure progress against previous performance.
- Establish treatment goals.
- Implement optimal treatment program.
- Project duration of service.
- Project associated costs.
- Document progress.
- Measure outcomes.
